Alt fuels and raw materials

A fuels program using Recycled Construction and Demolition timber as an alternative fuel to natural gas was implemented at Birkenhead in 2003 and extended in 2005 with the upgrade of the receival, storage and feed system.

This project was awarded the 2005 Cement Industry Federation (CIF) Sustainability Award for alternative fuels innovation.
