Adbri Masonry’s Contracting Services team, who undertake a range of supply and installation of commercial retaining wall and paving projects, successfully completed a major hardstand port terminal for the Berth 4 project at Port of Townsville.
With the immense weight of port machinery and freight containers, a heavy duty concrete paver capable of meeting the engineering specification and extreme loads was needed at the Berth 4 hardstand project. In response to this project requirement, Adbri presented a solution for the supply an installation of over 9,700m2 of locally produced, industrial strength concrete brick pavers.
The paving specification required a 200mm x 100mm x 100mm paver to be laid within a 4 week construction period. This size paver had only been utilised in container hardstands pavements where the product was manufactured on larger production machines and with a project of this size requiring an agile response and local servicing, the challenge for Adbri was to manufacture this same paver in a smaller manufacturing plant locally in Townsville where such a product had never been produced.
With an unwavering commitment to quality and delivery on customer expectations, the local Townsville team did an incredible job of trialling, testing, producing and delivering locally made product for this kye project. Not only did local production result in a more cost effective solution for the client, but it also delivered environmental benefit by cutting out thousands of kilometres of transport (and fossil fuel use) that would have otherwise been used. Otago Bay House is an award winning architecturally designed home which sits in the beautiful natural landscape elevated above Otago Bay on the Derwent River.
This home features several design and engineering features include engineered suspended slabs with a decorative brick facade, curved walls which follow the contours of the site and a stunning curved roof which sweeps up to reveal priceless views of Mount Wellington.
This high-profile architectural project required a reliable, local supplier to bring the designers vision to life. Adbri supplied hard wearing masonry bricks which were produced in a custom colour to complement the aesthetics of the sites natural environment. To further elevate the aesthetic appeal of the project, the Adbri bricks were lightly textured with a shotblast face finish to expose the natural aggregates within, further tying back to the natural beautify of the site.
To realise the maximum potential of a new land development opportunity in south west Sydney’s growth corridor, Lendlease’s Narellan Baptist Care project required high quality engineered retaining walls which were supplied and installed by Adbri.
This project required a series of high-performance retaining walls to be constructed on the site to develop and sub-divide the land for further building activity. Through the supply and install arm of Adbri’s Concrete Products business, over 2,000m of heavy-duty concrete sleepers and over 1,500m2 of Besser Block retaining walls were constructed.
Adbri was successful in being awarded this project after its Contracting Services Division presented a turnkey solution which included the manufacture and supply of concrete sleepers and Besser blocks, installation of the products and ongoing project management of the retaining wall construction.
This project called on the experience of Adbri’s civil engineers who provided ongoing design and project support throughout the 12-month supply period. Adbri’s ability to provide ongoing technical support, product testing via an in-house NATA accredited testing laboratory and a single point accountability for the works led to a positive outcome for the clients and owners.
The industrial paving project at Townsville’s Lavarack Army Barracks required a high-performance segmental paving solution capable of withstanding the significant loads of heavy vehicle traffic on site. To meet the considerable engineering needs of this project, Adbri supplied and installed over 100,000m2 of interlocking concrete pavers which were machine laid by specialty paving machines.
This interlocking paving units were manufactured by Adbri Masonry and tested at an in-house, NATA accredited testing laboratory to ensure quality and compliance for this demanding project. To satisfy the engineered pavement design, Adbri’s 80mm Unipave interlocking paving units were selected and successfully installed over a two year period.
By working closely with the client, Adbri were able delivered another successful project outcome for the Department of Defence that will stand the test of time.
City of Sydney has invested in numerous horizontal infrastructure and pedestrian streetscape projects to support the growth and urban renewal which is taking place in the Green Square precinct which is comprised of Sydney’s oldest heartland suburbs of Beaconsfield, Zetland, parts of Rosebery, Alexandria and Waterloo.
With streetscape paving a key ingredient in beautify public spaces, the material selection for the pavers to line these city streets was an important consideration and ultimately, Adbri’s premium Euro® Paving Range was selected to meet the needs of this project.
Over a two year supply period, Adbri manufactured and delivered over 5,000m2 of large format concrete pavers from the architectural Euro® Stone range. A 600x400x60mm paver was selected as the primary paver for use with the modern format in dark colour tones providing a highly desirably aesthetic appeal. A 60mm paver unit was selected due to its ability to meet the sites requirements for pavements to withstand loads of light commercial vehicles including those utilised by Emergency Services.
As the urban renewal of this heartland area continues, Adbri will continue to support the City’s needs with the local manufacture of high performance segmental concrete pavements.
BankWest Stadium is an iconic sporting stadium precinct situated on the banks of the Parramatta River in western Sydney. This state-of -the-art sporting venue is surrounded by a stunning landscape design which referenced an eel fishing basked used be the local Dharug people before evolving the design to reference a shimmering eel which wraps the stadium surrounds.
To achieve such an imaginative and intricate design, Adbri worked closely with Landscape Architects Aspect Studios to secure the specification and subsequent supply of interlocking concrete pavers in a variety of colours which were used to create the ‘eel’ and movement in the pavement design.
The end result seen over 13,000m2 of hard wearing coloured and textured Trihex and Trupave concrete pavers supplied to the project which now welcomes the pedestrian traffic of hundreds of thousands of spectators who visit for events each year.
