When releasing the report Adbri’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Irwin said:

“Adbri has recorded a strong full year performance and continues to make significant progress on reshaping the business. Our renewed leadership team is focused on delivering value through margin management and the efficient use of capital. We delivered significant revenue and earnings growth, underpinned by improved customer experience and pricing. Our performance reinforces that we are building a strategically positioned, disciplined and responsive organisation. We expect our Kwinana Upgrade Project to be operational by the end of 2024, supporting operational efficiencies and is well positioned for future growth in market demand. Pleasingly, we recorded an improved safety performance as we embed our culture of Work Safe, Home Safe. We continued to decarbonise our operations and products, with the successful launch of our lower carbon concrete and cement range and a planned world class hybrid electric battery limestone vessel from 2026, supporting increased lower carbon production at Birkenhead.”

Adbri’s lower carbon products

Adbri celebrated two low carbon product milestones in 2023 with the launch of EvoCem low carbon cement, and the introduction of the Futurecrete range of low carbon concretes.

Adbri EvoCem is a new lower carbon cement that reduces embodied carbon by up to 8% compared to conventional general purpose (GP) cement, as verified in our EPD. EvoCem is AS3972 compliant and satisfies the performance requirements of AS1379 and AS3600, making it a lower carbon substitute for Type GP cement.

We also released Futurecrete, our range of lower carbon concretes that are produced using a minimum of 25% supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). We launched the Futurecrete range to make it easier for customers to choose lower carbon concrete alternatives now available through all of our concrete brands for projects small and large, it’s never been easier to Build Better.

The release of these lower carbon products aligns with our Net Zero Emissions Roadmap action of creating new products, while also demonstrating our focus on meeting the evolving needs of our customers.

Roadmap to net zero emissions by 2050

On 2 May 2022, Adbri released its Net Zero Emissions Roadmap that establishes new medium-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets on the path to its goal to be net zero emissions by 2050. Read more about it here.

Adbri & Calix working together

As part of our commitment to a lower emissions future, Adbri is partnering with Australian company Calix to co-develop a Calix calciner for lime production with carbon capture technology. Feasibility work will commence soon on the project which represents a world-first development of a commercial-scale, zero-emissions lime production facility.

The story behind our brand

Our new brand embodies who we are and what we do, with the logo representing our three core operations of cement and lime; concrete and aggregates and concrete products. The circular symbol takes inspiration from our businesses; the circular quarry pits, cement mills and kilns, rotating agitators and mixers and the wheels on the trucks that deliver our product throughout Australia. The colours also reflect the historic Adelaide Brighton dark blue, complemented with a sky blue depicting our bright future, with the addition of a grey representing the earthly ingredients so important to Adbri.

Introducing our new look Adbri

Today Adbri is pleased to share with you our new look and feel.

Our change of name from Adelaide Brighton Limited to Adbri Limited recognises our strong national identity, while retaining a strong connection to our proud history as we grow into new markets.

With Adbri’s origins dating back to the opening of the Brighton Cement works in 1882, we have evolved from a South Australian cement manufacturer into a national vertically integrated construction materials and industrial minerals business that is helping build a better Australia.  Over our history we have overcome many challenges thanks to the dedication of our people and the support of our customers, suppliers and shareholders. Today we continue to demonstrate this strength and agility as we all work together to protect the health and wellbeing of all Australians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Making a positive difference

This year Adbri launched its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to help accelerate our journey to reconciliation. We believe the commitments we have made in our RAP will result in a positive difference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the areas of employment, education, empowerment and economic development, while enhancing the cultural understanding of our non-Indigenous workforce.
