Forrestfield Airport Link
The $1.86 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments and will deliver a new rail service to the eastern suburbs of Perth – with three new stations at Redcliffe, Airport Central and High Wycombe.
Cockburn Cement Limited worked closely with the contractor to supply approximately 100,000 tonnes of locally made cement and slag to the project. This high quality material was used for the 54,000 precast segments that line the 8.5km twin railway tunnels, the three new railway stations and other structural components of the project.
Northern Connector
Adbri’s local South Australian brands of Adbri Cement, Adbri Quarries Penrice, Adbri Quarries SA and Adbri Concrete SA have used their integrated business model to be a key materials supply partner to the project.
From the outset of the project our team worked closely with Lendlease to understand their requirements and where we could make the most difference. Our manufacturing facilities aligned its production schedule to peak construction periods, while our team focused on building a strong collaborative relationship based on doing what we say.
Prior to the first load of material being delivered to site, intensive product development was undertaken so we could supply a never used before cement in South Australia. Over a six-month period our technical team, utilising Adbri Cements’ state-of-the-art NATA accredited laboratory, developed a highly consistent and reliable Type Shrinkage Limited (SL) concrete that met the project’s unique specifications.
This in-house technical capability, combined with the scale of Adbri, provided our customers with the confidence that we would meet the projects supply requirements of:
- 950,000+ tonnes of road base from our quarries
- 310,000+ tonnes of sand and aggregate primarily used in the customer’s purpose-built concrete batching plant
- 42,000+ tonnes of cement and slag from our major Birkenhead manufacturing facility
- 28,000+ m³ of premix concrete for the detailed work around interchanges and bridges.
The result is an impressive road that incorporates the unique strengths of Adbri and maximises local content within South Australia.
