About the project

Hy-Tec, a brand of Adbri, was contracted by Delta Group to supply 3000m³ of concrete in one day at 308 Exhibition Street for the building’s twin towers foundation.

With the foundation poured three metres below ground level, while trains operated in tunnels below, there was no margin for error with the slab spanning the entire footprint of the 60 and 62 story towers, with a sky bridge at the 42nd level.

With this level of complexity Hy-Tec drew on the extensive footprint and expertise of our other trusted local Adbri brands – Central Premix Concrete and Independent Cement & Lime – to ensure the project had the resources to supply the highest quality product continuously for the duration of the pour.

After months of meticulous planning, which included stockpiling and coordinating additional cement and aggregate supplies for use on the day, Exhibition Street was hive of activity from 4am with trucks lining the street ready to deliver the first of 469 loads.

Over a 12-hour period:

  • 3,000m³ of concrete was supplied from three Adbri premix batch plants;
  • Approximately 6000 tonnes of sand and aggregates were stored at our plants for use on the day; and
  • Over 1000 tonnes of cementitious materials was supplied by our joint venture, Independent Cement & Lime, to our batching plants.

The successful completion of Melbourne’s biggest core raft concrete foundation demonstrates Adbri’s ability to draw on the resources of its trusted brands to work seamlessly together and deliver exceptional outcomes for our customer.
